I was stopped at a red light behind two cars. Both cars started to go and so did I the next thing I knew I had hit the car in front of me. The car in front of me hit the car in front of him. We all pulled over my car isnt to bad but I drive a suburban, the car in front of me was a smaller car so his looked a little worse. Nobody was hurt, and all cars were drivable, so we decided to not call the police we just all exchanged information. After we had finished and they left I immediately called my insurance lady to let her know what happened. I am not super clear on this next part, we have been going back and forth with our insurance since that call and will continue to fight it. When I called the insurance lady she said I wasnt covered. She said that they had received the last payment much later than it was due (not sure how because it was mailed the same time as always) but because of that our insurance had been cancelled. A couple of weeks ago they had chased our check, she said we were reinstated as of yesterday (the day of the accident) but because it was the same day they werent liable to pay the damages. We are going to keep fighting them because I dont think its fair. Even if they decide that they wont pay we can afford to just pay for the damages to the rear end of the car in front of us, because know matter what happened I am at fault for following to close. We cant afford to pay out of our pocket also for his front end and the rear end of the first car. Shouldnt those damages be covered by the car I hit because he was obviously following to close to the car in front of him? Im a little freaked out with all this, this is the first accident I have ever been in and we have always had insurance, so we thought. The insurance company did say they mailed us a cancellation notice but if they did we have never received one.

Why are there no good health insurance companies?

While thinking about the idea of an altruistic, fair public option for health insurance, I started trying to figure out why something like it doesn't already exist. (Or maybe it does?) The assumption seems to be that health insurance companies are causing problems through systematic greed, and the public option would help keep them honest. But, if this is the case, why isn't there an organization doing this already? Why don't the good, people, such as the ones that take less-pay than they could in other sectors to run major charitable organizations, start a good health insurance company that doesn't do any of the bad things that the other insurance companies do. If such an organization were to exist, it seems that everyone would switch to it, and even the most greedy of insurance companies would have to become like it in order to compete. There are obviously enough qualified and caring people out there to make such an organization happen without any government involvement. So why dont such organizations exist? I have a few ideas, but they dont explain the whole story. Maybe the fact that people dont usually shop around for health insurance because its chosen by their employers prevents new good insurance companies from gaining the market share required to make the bad ones change? Maybe health insurance companies are already as good as they can be, despite a few heartless employees, and the primary problems in health care come from somewhere else? Maybe protectionist legal policies prevent altruistic organizations from freely forming? Any thoughts?

Will My Car Insurance Go Up?

I was Driving down a road going about 35-40 mph. ( Speed Limit was 45 mph ) I was going straight, and this woman coming the opposite direction decides to turn into a cut out, that goes into a shopping center, and as she turns in to the cut out she just keeps going, out into the street I slam as hard as I could, on my brakes but I still hit her, I hit her on the passengers side in between the 2 doors. My Neck and back is still hurting me a lot more, from the accident, I have too wear a sling on my left arm / shoulder because of the force of the seat belt. My nose is swollen do to the impact of the air bags, also affected my neck, and head pain. I have marks on my right arm, and stomach from this. Now the air bag deployed in my truck, and all of the air bags deployed in her car. My Truck looks like it will probably be totaled the bumper is ruined, the hood is ruined, the headlight is broken, The door I had to practically pry open because it was stuck, Smoke started coming out of the truck headlight broken Paint, I think the radiator broke, etc.... etc... Both Vehicles had to be towed away. I have good insurance on our cars, but since this isn't my fault the other woman's insurance will have to pay my medical bills, and to fix my truck, or give me blue book value on it right? I am 20 years old, I live in Las Vegas, Nevada. My insurance is Allstate, and the Other Woman's insurance is allstate also. I will be getting a lawyer.

I'm living in Texas for school right now and I've been driving my car which is licensed, insured and registered for Michigan because I'm technically still a Michigan resident. At the same time I'm still paying insurance on a car of mine thats in Michigan for my mom to use. My 17 year old son was driving his 2003 Ford Explorer, when he was hit by another vehicle. My son was approaching a stop light and traveling between 3-5 mph....The vehicle that struck him was a company work vehicle. The work truck was pulling out of a parking lot when he hit my son. His estimated speed was also 3-5 mph. There were no injuries at all, and there was no medical treatment sought. This all happened on April 10th 2011. It was found that driver of the work truck was at fault for inattention. Honestly, this guy was super nice and walked my son through the process of calling police etc til I could get there....Now dealing with the Companies insurance carrier has been a headache!!!! here is the basic timeline....Explorer still drivable....Had to wait 10 days for police report....contacted Company that owned work truck, and they forwarded me to their insurance co....Was advised to seek several estimates, and fax them over....Faxed over estimates to adjuster. All estimates exceeded 5k....Stated she would have to contact an adjuster from local area to work this. Local adjuster came out. Estimated damages to be 3300.00. Insurance Company sent me check for 3300.00 and advised me when vehicle repaired, auto shop would need to work with adjuster on any additional repairs and costs. Explorer was in shop 30 days before finally being totaled. Local adjuster was horrible to work with, did not communicate with body shop, etc. I finally contacted the insurance company, and told them I refused to deal wither contracted adjuster etc. Now that the vehicle has been totaled, they don't want to pay what I think is fair. The insurance company wants to settle for $6928 plus $367 for taxes. Clean retail for the Explorer is $8100. This is for my area. I have been car shopping for 2 days straight. can't find anything comparable with the money they gave me etc. I have taken off work to deal with this etc, been going on for 2 months plus, and Iam worn out with it all...All I want is for my kid to be back in a safe reliable vehicle. The insurance company did provide a rental car. I had to drive it, my son had to take my car, my other son had bought our car from us, but can't get it yet, because the other needs it for work school etc....I am so frustrated with the ins ompany

I passed my driving test on the 11/10/12 I am not the registered owner on the V5 Log Book, my father is already insured on the vehicle that will be handed over to me as a shared car yet, I can't get my own insurance because I had one claim as a provisional license back in 2010, would it be better to go as an additional driver on my fathers policy or somehow resolve the problem as be the policy holder myself. Also my father admits he will be no longer needing the car when the insurance expires, but what do I do? just to be able to drive my car as I've only recently passed and want to go out for a drive!!!! Will the log book eventually need to be in my name so I can insure it? I just started working my first real adult job and have become eligible for a health insurance package. If I decided to get the benefits, about $88 dollars will be taken from my paycheck--that will be $176 a month ($2,112 over a year) that I will be loosing. That's a lot! I'm 23 (female) and I never get sick and I haven't had the need to go to the the doctor for anything serious in over 4 years. It may seem like a stupid question since Health Coverage right now is a current hot topic that many people are fighting about, but....SHOULD I GET MY BENEFITS? I just don't see the point of having all that money taken out of my paycheck and then STILL having to pay a co-pay. I might go see a Obgyn but that costs less than $250 out off pocket which is still less than $2112. I also just left college so I'm current on all my physicals, and I don't need any eye prescriptions. So is it worth the gamble?
